Do You Know Your Child's Teacher?
Developing a positive relationship with your child's teacher can go a long way in helping your child during the school year. According to former PTA national president Jan Harp Domene, "I'd never allow a stranger to educate my child."
Parents who work with their child's teachers:
- Know more about their child and are able to identify potential problems before they become serious
- Can help their child be better prepared to meet the teacher's objectives
- Have children who generally perform better in school
Most schools have a variety of ways to help you get to know the teacher and get involved, like back-to-school night, parent-teacher conference, school events, and volunteering in the classroom. Remember when interacting with your child's teacher that you are not there to disrupt the education process, but to enhance it.
