Amber Barrus, APRN, FNP-C

Biography

Born and raised in Utah, Amber is directionally challenged without the mountains. She’s a mother of five (three girls and two boys) and enjoys exploring new places with her family, including hiking trails, historical sites, creepy ghost towns, and old cemeteries.

Amber also loves being active and can often be found running, biking, playing pickleball, or snowshoeing. She hopes to complete a triathlon someday, but first needs to overcome her fear of swimming.

From the start of her career, Amber was drawn to pediatrics. She loves the innocence and energy of kids as they remind her of what we all have inside ourselves.

Because she often suffered strep as a child, Amber constantly felt she had a tongue depressor or swab in her throat without warning, which enhanced her gag reflex for life! Because of that, she explains everything to her patients before it happens so they understand the equipment and know what to expect.

Amber’s experience as a mom gives her a great deal of empathy for the challenges of parenthood. With 25 years of experience as a NICU nurse and as the mother of a NICU baby, she is also eager to help mothers who desire to breastfeed feel supported, educated, and empowered in their efforts. Amber has a great deal of empathy for the challenges of parenthood, starting with the emotionality of breastfeeding to the ups and downs of navigating adolescence and everything in between.

Amber feels a child’s overall wellbeing stems from secure relationships with an adult(s), space to recognize and voice their feelings, and empowerment through family education. She respects a parent’s ability to be an inspired member of their child’s healthcare team and strives to support and educate them on sustainable wellness practices and options.
