Melissa Kendall, M.D.

Born in New York City, Dr. Melissa Kendall has grown deep roots in Utah since moving here at age eight. Not only was she a patient of Dr. Thales Smith (a UVP founding partner) as a child, she returned here after residency to raise her family. She and her husband have six children.

Melissa credits motherhood and an intense childhood fear of shots with making her a better pediatrician. She says she’s also a better person and doctor because of the things she learns parenting her own kids.

She believes love, attention, patience, and positive reinforcement go a long way in helping kids flourish. “Most things get better without much intervention,” she says, “but my job is to recognize when and what more needs to be done and to teach parents what they need to know about things they’ll likely encounter again.”

Dr. Kendall enjoys kids of all ages, but those between two and four years old bring her the biggest smiles. With her own kids long out of diapers, she says she also cherishes the opportunity to work with so many babies. “My greatest joy in this job is the relationships we develop together – parents, children, and myself.”
