Current Health Updates for Utah Families

Measles Awareness

Utah is experiencing the largest and most active measles outbreak in the US. While measles is highly contagious and can stay in the air for two hours, the MMR vaccine is 97 percent effective.

Vaccinations

In Utah, kindergarteners and 7th graders require immunizations before they can start school. If your child is not up to date, schedule an appointment now to beat the rush in August.

Patient Resources and FAQ

What should I do if my child is exposed to measles?

Call your pediatrician immediately. If the child is unvaccinated, getting the vaccine within 72 hours of exposure may prevent the disease.

When is my child too sick for school?

Children should stay home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.

HOW CAN I RELIEVE MY CHILD'S ALLERGIES?

Medications such as antihistamines or nasal spray steroids can help control allergy symptoms. If your child’s symptoms are interfering with their sleep, school performance, or participation in sports, it may be time to discuss with your pediatrician.
